Start training when they are kittens. Leave your carrier at a corner of your cat’s favorite room, door left open and with a soft towel inside. Cover the outside of the carrier with a towel giving it a cave like look. Leaving catnip or treat inside may also attract your cat. Leave the carrier without moving. Once your cat starting to go in and out, close the door and take for a quick drive. When you come back leave the carrier at the same place and let the cat out. You can repeat for several times to make your cat comfortable with the routine. Doing this with a kitten to get used to the carrier and the routine will help you in the long term.

In order to keep your cat calm inside the carrier, use pheromone spray 15 minutes before putting the cat into the carrier. Wrapping your cat in a towel before putting into the carrier may also help.
